Coaches Corner
First, I would like to thank everyone for a wonderful summer season. Congratulations to the following swimmer who represented the Columbus Hilltop Y at Summer Long Course Nationals. Ashley Miller who swam the 100 back and 50 back also swam the backstroke leg on the 200 Medley Relay. Leah Hill, Alexa Williams, Kaitlyn Camp also swam on the 200 Medley Relay. For the boys 200 Free Relay, Jack Baily, Jordan Payne, Max Dignan also Sam Dignan.
I want to welcome everyone back to the CHY team. I am looking forward to coaching another great year of swimmers. The first phase of the season will be based primarily on conditioning (building endurance) and stroke technique along with drills of all strokes, turns, starts and finishes. We will also be putting in some dry land work for the 12 and under's. The second phase of the season will be with an emphasis on continuing endurance, race paces vs "smooth" pace. This is the phase that the swimmers will truly learn how to race. this is also the phase that they will reach their maximum yardage for the season and the time when they will feel very tired and "beat-up". We will still be working on drills, starts, turns and finishes but most workouts will be endurance and racing. The last phase of the year will be slowing down period for the swimmers in which the attention begins to shift back to the first phase. Where we will focus on drills and technique but the swimmer will still be force to race with more rest in between sets as we get closer to Championship Meets. If you have any questions about anything for your swimmer please let us know.
Amanda Miller 8 and Under's.
Jacob Shiplet 9-10, 11-12.
Amy Miller 13 and Over.
Thank you,
Amy
